Public Policy Workshop

By Halitesh Datt (Fiji One News)

Over 25 senior civil servants, who took part in the three-day long Public Policy Analysis workshop this week should now be better equipped to conduct an effective analysis of public policies.

The training was conducted by the Public Service Commission in partnership with the Pacific Islands Centre for Public Administration or PICPA.

Workshop facilitator and PICPA advisor, Dr Desmond Amosa says the main objective of the training was to build and develop the capacity of senior government officials in Fiji on public policy analysis.

“The main message for the participants is for them to take policy analysis seriously. They have the confidence of the public to do a good job and to make sure that they conduct proper analysis, especially for the people that are affected by the policy to be involved as part of the analysis,” he says.

The training will help senior public officials responsible for citing policy problems and coming up with recommendations and solutions for those problems.

“Not having enough time as many public officials face many duties and responsibilities so they have to do analysis in a short period of time.”

“It is good to have knowledge of conducting analysis but writing it down is another issue. We need to have the skills to be able to do that,” according to Dr Amosa.
